CRA Endorses DeVore, Poizner and others...
California Republican Assembly members met in convention at the Knott's Berry Farm Resort Hotel March 5-7 to endorse candidates for office in the June Primary. The three day event was well attended, and all of the statewide candidates, and their campaign operatives, converged on the hotel to make their case to delegates.
On Sunday afternoon, after a lengthy day of parliamentary maneuvering, votes were cast and the following were endorsed by CRA:
| U.S. Senate | Chuck DeVore |
| Governor | Steve Poizner |
| Lt. Governor | Sam Aanestad |
| Attorney General | John Eastman |
| Secretary of State | Damon Dunn |
| State Treasurer | Mimi Walters |
| State Controller | Tony Strickland |
| Supt of Public Instruc. | Diane Lenning |
| Bd of Equalization, Dist 2 | George Runnner |
| Bd of Equalization, Dist 3 | Michelle Steel |
| Proposition 13 | YES |
| Proposition 14 | NO |
| Proposition 15 | NO |
| Proposition 16 | YES |
| Proposition 17 | YES |
"While we at CRA do not agree with Steve on every issue, of the two most viable candidates for the Republican nomination for Governor, Steve Poizner is the more conservative.” stated CRA President Ken Mettler.
“In addition,” Mettler continued “Steve Poizner has a solid plan to return California to fiscal sanity. Steve is an experienced business owner and he has won statewide office and done an excellent job heading up our State’s Insurance Department as its Elected Commissioner.“
Endorsement by the California Republican Assembly requires support by two-thirds of delegates voting at convention.
The endorsement convention coincided with CRA's 75th Anniversary Celebration. Incorporated in 1935, CRA is the state's oldest and largest Republican volunteer organization. President Ronald Reagan referred to CRA as "the conscience of the Republican Party."
